CUPE MANITOBA SCHOOL DIVISION STEERING COMMITTEE IS SUGGESTING THAT PERHAPS THERE SHOULD BE A PROVINCE WIDE BLUE CROSS PLAN FOR ALL EMPLOYEES REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY ARE TEACHERS OR NON TEACHERS. THIS PROPOSAL RECEIVED A DEAFENING ROUND OF APPLAUSE AT THE SCHOOL DIVISION STEERING COMMITTEE CONFERENCE HELD IN BRANDON OCTOBER 2001. TELL US WHAT YOU THINK AS MEMBERS OF THE PLAN BECAUSE THIS WILL RESULT IN A BETTER PLAN FOR ALL MEMBERS ENROLLED

REMEMBER BLUE CROSS PLAN CHANGES ARE PRESENTED FOR APPROVAL AT THE MANITOBA TEACHERS SOCIETY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING IN MAY EACH YEAR.

The Blue Cross Plan for non teaching members enrolled in the plan have voiced concerns that they are paying a greater share than the teacher members in the plan. What are the facts?

Single/month $21.20 $18.75 +13.1%
Since November 1996, the family rate for teachers has increased by 97%.
Non-teacher November 2001 January 2001 %
Family/month $58.25 $50.50 +15.3%
Single/month $21.20 $18.45 +14.9%
Since November 1996, the family rate for non-teachers has increased by 207%.
It appears that from the statistics provided by MASBO that teachers actually pay $6.70 more a month than non teachers when comparing family contributions. When comparing single contributions to the plan teachers and non teachers are paying the same rate as of November 2001.
