Irene Bernard President Local 1112 Fort Garry School Division makes an emotional plea for brother Leo Canirand of CUPE LOCAL 3490 who has LUPUS, a devastating disease that is at present incurable. This disease discriminates against women up to 10 to 1. This disease affects everyone from children to the elderly. This disease is not well known, and desperaterly needs funding for research. It affects 50,000 Canadians of all ages. The best treatment available is not even in Canada, and brother Leo Canirand has to go to Minnesota for treatment. So a campaign is under way to help brother Leo. So the School Division Sector Committee decided to have a CUPE jail fundraising activity. To all the union brothers and sisters who contributed their time and money well done. The CUPE jail activity was entertaining, and accomplished its task of raising substantial funds for brother Leo's trip. The generosity and good sportsmanship exhibited from CUPE Manitoba president Paul Moist whose bail was over $150, to the sheriff Rik Panciera CUPE National rep who CUPE Local 3745 is proud to say were the one's who had him put in jail for $100, and to his CUPE Local 110 for raising his bail of $100.
